Moose Point State Park is located in the heart of Midcoast Maine, off Route 1 between Searsport and Belfast. Surrounded by the beautiful waters of Penobscot Bay, this quaint state park offers travelers and locals a quiet place to connect with nature. It’s the perfect place to stop and stretch your legs or enjoy a Sunday picnic with loved ones.

Trail map of the park.

The park is home to a network of short, mostly flat walking trails.

Big Spruce Trail: Starts in the parking lot and follows the shoreline to the large spruce located near Moose Point.

Moose Trail: Mostly wooded, begins at the playground and connects to the Big Spruce Trail.

Meadow Trail: Starts near the park ranger booth, goes past the group shelter and gazebo. Ends at the shoreline.

Scattered along the grassy fields are picnic tables, many of which overlook the Penobscot Bay. In the summer, visitors can enjoy a picnic amongst the wild flowers and raspberries that grow along the shoreline. After eating, take the stairs down to the water and enjoy views of the bay. You may even spot some wildlife!

The group picnic shelter.

Moose Point is one of the few Maine State Parks that allows wedding ceremonies and receptions. Of course, advance planning with park staff is required. There is a beautiful gazebo that can be utilized, as well as a group shelter equipped with electricity, running water, a sink, and seating for up to 72 guests. The group shelter is also popular for family reunions, birthday parties, bridal showers, and baby showers.

The state park playground.

The walking trails, wide open grassy areas, and playground make this park extremely family-friendly. We loved exploring the park with our pup. Our favorite trail was the Big Spruce trail. It provided the best views and I loved all of the benches along the way that allowed us to sit and people watch (uhhh, I mean—nature watch)!

The next time you’re traveling North or South on Route 1 and feeling like you could use a stretch, walk, or a nice view, stop by Moose Point and recharge!

Happy exploring, friends!
